1. Girls say they like "sensitive guys" (lie)
2. Guy finds out, so he listens to faggy emo music and dresses like a dork so chicks will see that he is sensitive and not afraid to express himself (lie). He dyes his hair black, wraps himself in a stupid looking scarf, develops an eating disorder, and rants about how "nobody understands".

4. Emo guy is just too much of a pussy. His penis is too small, he's too depressed to bathe, and has more mood swings than emo chick, and he doesn't even have a menstrual cycle. Emo chick dumps him, saying "It's not you, it's me." (lie) as she drives off with Wayne, the school jock and captain of the football team.
5. Emo guy goes home and cries, proceeds to write a weak song and strum a single string on his acoustic guitar. Another emo chick sees how he is so in touch with his feelings, and the cycle continues.

This is the sad truth of the emo lifestyle/music, and now that I look at how pathetic it really is, maybe the emos DO have something to cry about!

"Emo" is not short for "Emotional." "Emo" does not mean Taking Back Sunday and Dashboard Confessional, despite what MTV has lead you to believe in the last few years. "Emo" is not sidebangs, tight pants, and male vocalists who sing like little girls about their failed relationships. "Emo" is not the use of diluted, meaningless metaphors and similes such as "My arms are like pinecones," and most definitely is not the rampant use of words such as "autumn," "heart," "knife," "bleeding," "leaves," and "razorblade."

I just thought I'd clear that up after all of these "definitions" in which I have encountered an unbelievable amount of people who try to pass off their blatantly false pretenses as fact, and are slowly infecting others with their high-horse, holier-than-thou bullshit. Because honestly, with your ridiculous definitions, Beethoven, George Gershwin, and Britney Spears are/was "emo bands."

Now, onto the real definition.

In the early 90s there was a movement in the hardcore genre that came to be known as "Emotive Hardcore," spearheaded by Rites Of Spring. Harder-core-than-thou kids, who swore by Dischord Records a la Minor Threat, actually coined the term "Emo" as something of a put-down for the kids who really liked Rites Of Spring, Indian Summer and this new wave of "Emotive" Hardcore bands. That's right, "Emo" was once not something kids called themselves. The field exploded outwards from there - Level-Plane Records has always been the most famous Emo label....

Age And Acquisition

Second language acquisition (SLA) can happen in childhood, early or late, as well as in adulthood.
These following statements are the parameters for looking at the effects of age and acquisition;
A. Dispelling Myths
Dispel some myths about the relationship between first and second language acquisition. (H.H Stern, 1970: 67-58)
Second language teaching methods on the basis of first language acquisition are:
1. In language teaching, we must practice and practice, again and again.
2. Language learning is mainly a matter of imitation.
3. First, we practice to separate sound, then words, then sentences.
4. First listens, then speaks. Understanding always precedes speaking.
5. Reading and writing are advanced stages of language development. The natural order for first and second language learning is listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
6. You did not have to translate when you are small.
7. A small child simply uses language. He does not learn formal grammar.

So, the conclusion is that the first language acquisition process was viewed as consisting of rote practice, habit information, shaping, over learning, reinforcement, conditioning, association, stimulus and response, and therefore as same as the second language learning process constructs.

As the human brain matures, certain function are assigned, or “lateralization” to the left hemisphere of the brain.

2. Biological Timetables
Scovel’s evidence pointed the development of a socially bonding accent at puberty;
1. To form an identity with their own community as they anticipate roles as parenting and leadership.
2. To attract mates of “their own kind” in an instinctive drive to maintain their own species.
3. Right-Hemispheric Participation

Genesee (1982: 321) concluded, that “there may be greater right hemisphere involvement in language processing in bilinguals who acquired their second language late relative to their first language and in bilinguals who learn it in informal contexts”
4. Anthropological Evidence
Jane Hill ( anthropologist, 1970 ):
“Yielded evidence that adult can, in the normal course of their lives, acquire second language perfectly.”
Reported by Sorenson ( 1967 ):
“That people must marry outside their group, and hence almost always marry someone who speaks another language.”
E. Affective Considerations
It is only logical, affective (emotional)
The affective domain includes many factors: empathy, self-esteem, extroversion, inhibition, imitation, anxiety, attitudes.
Adults tend to tolerate linguistic differences more than children, and therefore errors in speech are more easily excused.
F. Linguistic Considerations

What are the Linguistic Considerations of about SLA?
1. Bilingualism

Bilinguals are not two monolinguals in the same head ”(Cook 1995:58)
Bilinguals are most engage in code-switching (the act of inserting words, phrases, or even longer
the child’s acquisition did not appear to show first language interference, and expect for negation

2. Interferences in Adults
Adults second language linguistic process are more vulnerable to the effect of the first language on the second
Adults approach the second language as either focally or peripherally or systemically
Adults more cognitively secure, appear to operate from the solid foundation of the first language
3. Order of Acquisition
On of the first steps toward demonstrating the importance of factors other than first language interference was taken in a series of research studies by Heidi Dulay and Marina Burt (1972, 1974a, 1974b, 1976). They even went so far at one point as to calm that “transfer of L1 syntactic patterns rarely occurs” in child second language acquisition (1976:72).
ISSUES IN FIRST LANGUAGE ACQUISITION REVISITED

A way of highlighiting the implications of the issues for second language learning
1. Compentece and Performance
It is as difficult to “get at” linguistic competence in a second language as it is in first.
You can be a little mote direct in inferring comptence in adults.
In judging utterances in the modern language class-room and respones on various tests,
Teacher need to be coutiously attentive to the discrepancy between performance on a given day or in a given context and competence in a second language in general.
2. Comprehension and Production
There is uiversal distinction between conprehension and production.
Learning a second language ussually means learning to speak it and to comprehension it!
So teaching invloves attending to both comprehension and production and the full considerection of the gaps and different between the two.
3. Nature or Nurture?
Adults and children alike appear to have the capacity to acquire a second language at any age.
The only trick that nature might play on adults is to virtually rule out the acquistion of authentic accent.
If an adult does not acquire a second language succesfully, it is probably because of intervening cogtnitive or affective variables and not the absence of innate capacities
4. Universals
Research on child SLA suggest that children’s developing second language grammars are indded, Constrained by UG ( lakshmanan 1996 )
Second language learners have only “partial access” to UG ( O’Grady 1996 )
Adulst acquire second language systems without any reference to UG ( vroman, 1988 )
Cook ( 1993:244 ) provoctively asks, “why should second language users be treated as failed monolinguges.
5. Systematicity and Variability
It is clear thet second language acquistion, both child and adult, is characterized by both systematicity and variability.
Second language linguistic development appears in many instances to mirror the first language acquisition process : learnes induce rules rules, generalize across a category, overgeneralize, and procced in stages of develpoment ( more on this in Chapter 9 )
The variability of second language acquisition is exacerbated by a host of cognative.
Affective, cultural, and contextual variables that are sometimes not applicable to a first language situation.

Sometimes in written expression questions on the TOEFL test, adjectives are incorrectly used in place of adverbs, or adverbs are incorrectly used in place of the adjectives. Adjectives and adverbs have very different uses in sentences. Adjectives have only one job: they describe nouns or pronouns.

In the first example, the adjective delicious describes the noun meal. In the second example, the adjetivc delicious describes the pronoun il.

Adverbs have three different uses. They call describe verbs, adjectives, or adverbs.

It is a quickly written letter

ADV. ADJ. NOUN

It is an extremely quickly written letter.

ADV. ADV. ADJ. NOUN

In the first example, the adverb quickly describes the verb writes. In the second example, the adverb quicklywritten (which describes the noun letter). ,In the third example, the adverb extremelyquickly, which describes the adjective written (which describes the noun letter). describes the adjective describes the adverb

The following are examples of incorrect sentences as they might appear on the TOEFL test.

They were seated at a comforrtably* table.

ADV. NOUN

The child talked sofl* to her mother.

We read an extreme* long story.

She speaks unbelievable* quickly.

In the first example, the adverb comfortably is incorrect because the adjective comfortable is needed to describe the noun table. In the second example, the adjective soft is incorrect because the adverb softly is needed to describe the verb talked. In the third example, the adjective extreme is incorrect because the adverb extremely is needed to describe the adjective long. In the last example, the adjective unbelievable is incorrect because the adverb unbelievably is needed to describe the adverb quickly.

The following chart outlines the important information that you should remember about the use of adjectives and adverbs.

Skill 25: ADJECTIVES AFTER LINKING VERBS

Generally an adverb rather than an adjective will come directly after a verb because the adverb is describing the verb.

She spoke nicely.

VERB ADV.

In this example, the verb spoke is followed by the adverb nicely. This adverb describes the verb spoke.

However, you must be very careful if the verb is a linking verb. A linking verb is followed by an adjective rather than all adverb.

She looks nice.

SUBJ. ADJ.

In this example, the linking verb looks is followed by the adjective nice. This adjective describes the subject she.

Membaca buku ini membuat seluruh kesan childish yang dimunculkan artwork sampulnya mendadak hilang. Buku ini berkisah tentang kehidupan yang bergegas, yang memaksa kita berlari hingga melewatkan banyak hal penting. Tema besar itulah yang ingin disampaikan oleh Alice K dengan meminjam kehidupan seorang cewek bernama Claire.

Claire adalah anak SMA yang sibuk, sibuk dengan teman, pacar sekolah, kerja part-time, dan berbagai urusan remaja lainnya. Ia tinggal berdua dengan seorang ibu yang sama sibuknya, sibuk bekerja di rumah sakit sebagai seorang dokter kandungan. Atas nama kesibukan, mereka berdua jarang bertemu. Komunikasi yang berlangsung di antara mereka hanyalah berupa pesan-pesan yang ditulis dan ditempelkan, di pintu kulkas.

pesan-pesan inilah yang kemudian bercerita kepada kita mengenai kehidupan ibu dan anak ini. Tidak ada percakapan langsung di antara mereka, tidak ada narasi yang ditulis dengan standar penulisan novel pada umumnya. Alice K merangkai cerita dalam teenlit ini dari 202 pesan, dengan satu pesan di setiap halaman. Cara yang unik dan cukup eksperimental untuk sebuah teenlit.

Pada akhirnya kita akan menemukan, bahwa kisah ibu dan anak itu sendiri bukanlah yang paling penting dalam novel ini. Fokusnya justru ada pada pola dan proses komunikasi yang berlangsung di antara mereka. Bagaimana usaha-usaha Claire dan ibunya untuk mengatasi ruang dan waktu yang kadangkala justru menjebak mereka dalam kehidupan yang terus menerus sama. Dan bagaimana jika hal itu kemudian berkembang pada sebuah kesadaran baru akan hal-hal yang lebih essensial. Sekedar tambahan, ending novel ini tidak gampang ditebak.
